Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is leading his chief rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, in the NATO country's presidential race — but apparently by not enough to avoid a runoff election. Turkey's strongman ruler for 20 years, the 69-year-old Erdogan is winning less than 50% of the votes, which would require a runoff against Kilicdaroglu, 74, on May 28. Votes of Turkish citizens living abroad are still being counted. |

With the summer travel season about to kick off, United Airlines pilots are calling for higher pay after four years without raises. The pilots hit the picket line at major airports, as they struggle to negotiate a new contract that meets their demands. The nationwide protests follow a string of strike authorizations by pilots from other airlines, including Delta Airlines, which eventually agreed to sizable pay increases. |

| In the U.S. marijuana is legal in 38 states, Washington D.C. and three territories — but it's still illegal nationally. And that means businesses that are legitimate at the state level still can't use traditional banks, which are prohibited from dealing with them. The SAFE Banking Act would change that, but it's been stalled in the Senate for years — until now. A historic hearing just took place and supporters hope this changes everything. This first time the government ever said, "Taxes? Don't worry about it. You can keep your money." |

Jayson Tatum's 51-point tour de force drove the Boston Celtics past the Philadelphia 76ers and into the NBA East finals, where they will face the Miami Heat starting Wednesday night. Out West, the Denver Nuggets' conference championship series against the Los Angeles Lakers will tip off Tuesday. In the semis, the 76ers took the Celtics to seven games, but the Knicks, Suns and defending NBA champion Warriors all went down in six. College basketball's March Madness is but a distant memory as the NBA's interminable season soldiers on. |
