HALFWAY THERE The House overwhelmingly passed a two-year budget compromise that partially freezes some spending in exchange for raising the debt ceiling, sending the bill to the Senate just four days before the country would default without an agreement. LAWS NOT OK Oklahoma's Supreme Court struck down two laws that force women with life-threatening pregnancies to wait until their condition deteriorates into a medical emergency. Abortion is still banned unless a woman's pregnancy endangers her life — they just won't have to wait. 3. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE? Experts who spent the last year looking at about 800 UFO reports for NASA said that it's hard to dig deeper when the referred cases have different kinds and quality of data, according to media reports from the four-hour meeting. BRAKING NEWS Carmakers would be required to let automatic brakes kick in at higher speeds under a proposed rule from the U.S. auto safety regulator. The draft rules would also require automatic braking — a feature in 90% of new models — in more low-light situations that make it hard to see people walking and cycling.  5. DISS COURTESY New York City police officers are pressured to let family and friends of other officers off the hook for speeding and driving recklessly. That's according to NYPD Officer Mathew Bianchi's lawsuit against the city, which alleges he's been retaliated against for sometimes bucking the "unwritten rule that you cannot write tickets" to people with so-called courtesy cards, which police unions print for members to hand out.    To Protect (Reckless Drivers) and Serve (Our Buddies)   6. DEMENTIA Rosalynn Carter's family hopes to use the former first lady's diagnosis of dementia to spark conversations about the condition, which is shared by 5.8 million people in the U.S. Dr. Jen Caudle, a physician and professor at Rowan University, shared ways we can support people living with dementia and their families. 7.
