It's not clear if House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will have the votes today to pass the budget compromise he made over the weekend with President Joe Biden. A group of the most conservative members is trying to tank the bill, which Biden needs to sign by Monday to prevent the U.S. from defaulting. Some senators have said they will try to remove and add provisions, which would eat up more time. If the countdown to our debt default was renamed TikTok, would Congress act with a little more urgency? |

The lack of paid sick leave for restaurant workers is making diners sick as well. About four in 10 restaurant food poisoning outbreaks between 2017 and 2019 were linked to a worker who was sick or contagious on the job, according to the CDC. Fewer than half of restaurants said they gave workers paid sick leave and just 16% required staff to tell managers and stay home if they had symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea.
