The nation's legal conservative movement has wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade and eliminate affirmative action in higher education for decades. It took just over a year for the Supreme Court to do both — after three justices nominated by former President Donald Trump took the bench. The court term that just ended included other expected conservative rulings, but also some surprises. |

Some presidents have celebrated the most American holiday with play — beach trips, rounds of golf, even a sailing trip to Hawaii — while others use the pomp of Independence Day to boost their administration's work. Work or play, no president wants their Fourth to end like it did for 12th president Zachary Taylor. |

The Biden administration promised that asylum seekers would get legal representation when rapid screenings restarted this spring. That has not happened, according to an Associated Press investigation. Out of thousands of cases rushed through at border processing centers, only about 100 people have a lawyer to help in the screening process, and some hundreds more have received advice over the phone. |

Last month, for the first time in more than a year, the Federal Reserve declined to raise interest rates, but apparently it will need to increase them again soon, although at smaller increments. In the big picture, that means the Fed thinks inflation is on the right path, but still needs more medicine. But what does this all mean in the real world, where we have mortgages and credit card bills and just want to know if our job is safe? |

Seven out of 10 young tech workers said that they've felt uncomfortable in a job because of who they are including their gender, ethnicity and class, according to a 2022 Wiley Edge report. Leanne Pittsford, cofounder and CEO of Lesbians Who Tech & Allies, explained how their 100,000-member network is changing workplaces and the broader industry by getting a seat at the table for queer women and especially queer women of color. Revolutionary concept: People want to work at places where they have a say, are listened to and respected for who they are. |

There's something about paddling — whether it's a canoe, kayak or paddleboard — that can leave the relevant muscles feeling less than comfortable. Fortunately, an oar-acle at Concept Fitness shows how you can limber up in just four minutes. All you need is your paddle. More like the Foar-minute routine, are we right? Right? Why isn't anyone laughing? |

Today as in generations past, so many American stories have started with people leaving their home to start a new life. At the Tenement Museum in New York, we learned how one apartment became the setting for three different families — Epstein, Saez Velez and Wong — who each forged new lives in postwar Manhattan. |
The long-awaited Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny ranked No. 1 in weekend box office earnings, but Harrison Ford's final Indy adventure registered at the low end of projections. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse came in second and Elemental third. |

Burmese peacock softshells, freshwater turtles in Myanmar, have lost about 80% of their habitat over the last century. But with the help of conservationists, the resilient reptiles are hanging in there, and recently a new generation of little ones was filmed as they hatched and started exploring the world in their little silver-dollar pancake-sized shells. |

HELPING PETS DURING FIREWORKS |
Fourth of July: Family, friends, food and fireworks. Your dog or cat may love the first three, but there's a good chance that they fear the last one. Alina Hauptman of the Best Friends Animal Society said you can help them by bringing them inside during fireworks shows, knowing the signs of nervousness and creating a safe space for you all to wait out the noise. She also explained why it's important to have their microchip updated with your contact information. |
