Wisconsin's Republican-controlled legislature sent Democratic Gov. Tony Evers a two-year budget that increased per-student funding in the 2023-2024 and 2024-25 school years. But Evers, using the partial-veto authority that some states allow governors, crossed out four numbers and a hyphen to extend that annual increase "for 2023-2425" — more than 400 years.

Talks broke down between UPS bosses and union representatives for 340,000 workers, who make up half the workforce of a company that says it delivers goods equal to 6% of the country's gross domestic product.
