1. LAWYER EMPLOYMENT PROJECT |
Former President Donald Trump could be indicted for a third and even a fourth time this week, both in cases about his attempts to overturn his 2020 election loss. Trump's lawyers met Thursday with a team from Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection and events leading up to it, a sign that an indictment would come soon in the case. In Fulton County, Ga., the district attorney has been presenting evidence that Trump and his allies tried to alter the vote count in Georgia, which President Joe Biden narrowly won. New theory for the economy's surprising growth lately: Trump legal fees. |

Today could be Phoenix's first in a month to not subject residents to temperatures above 110 degrees, according to National Weather Service forecasts that include chances of cooling showers and thunderstorms through Tuesday. Lower temperatures are also forecast for Las Vegas, Albuquerque and Death Valley. | |

Gas prices have reached their highest levels since late 2022, according to data from AAA, hitting a national average of $3.75 per gallon Sunday for regular unleaded gasoline. While gas prices are 20 cents higher than in June, they are still well below the $4.23 per gallon paid a year ago, or the all-time high of $5.01 in mid-June 2022. |

The median U.S. rent is forecast to fall 0.9% this year after growing 25% over the last four. But in some metro areas, such as Indianapolis, rents are rising 5% or more. The boom in new apartment construction should theoretically help bring down prices, but 40% of the rentals getting built this year are concentrated in the 10 fast-growing metros, and seven in 10 of the new rentals are luxury units. A luxury rental boom also means a boom in ridiculous building names like Le Bleu en Main and Market 44. (We made those up, but they probably exist.) |

A federal judge temporarily blocked a new Arkansas law that allows criminal charges against librarians and booksellers for providing "harmful" materials to minors and also made it easier to move library books to areas off-limits to kids. The law, scheduled to take effect Tuesday, is part of a conservative effort to remove books and discussions about LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender people. If they read books instead of trying to ban them, they might see that history doesn't look kindly on people like them. |

Another week, another peculiar recall for the favored grocery store of liberal arts graduates. Late last week, Trader Joe's recalled containers of Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup dated July 18 to Sept. 15, because the soup may have insects, and of Fully Cooked Falafel in 35 states and Washington, D.C., because they might contain rocks. Rocks also caused the recall of two cookie products the week before. Well, it is called Unexpected Cheddar Soup.

At least 100,000 people, and as many as 450,000, have become allergic to mammal meat and milk after getting bitten by the lone star tick. Doctors have become more aware of the allergy, but cases may be growing in part because the tick's territory is expanding as the climate warms. To bring this full circle: Among the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change are animals raised for their meat and milk. |

Click a button, get a pack of razors tomorrow. Click another button, choose from an endless stream of shows and movies. To get that content on your screen and those goods to your door, online platforms have pushed workers to do more, faster … and for a shrinking slice of the pie. For all the differences on the surface of their jobs, Hollywood writers and UPS drivers are pushing back against the same trend. |

9. HOW TO NEGOTIATE BILLS |
That's it: Your cell phone provider, gym or other service provider has raised your rate for the last time. To negotiate a better deal, doing a little research on competitors and deciding what you want from them will go a long way, says finance creator Milan Singh. |

Barbenheimer lost little steam in what was a fantastic second weekend: Barbie kept the top spot with $93 million in ticket sales and Oppenheimer retained second place with $46.2 million. Together, the films — which are made by separate studios — have already passed $1 billion in ticket sales. Do you guys ever think about making box office history? |

my husband has been taking sailing lessons and instead of putting it on our calendar like a normal person he prefers to stand up abruptly, stare out the window, and proclaim "I must go to the sea!"
