If you're on the northern East Coast, you already know what we're about to say: Tropical Storm Ophelia, which took us by surprise last week, is now bringing the third day of rain to the region. Ophelia made landfall in North Carolina Saturday at sunrise and soon lost its TS designation, but the rain has continued to fall as power companies get electricity back on and coastal areas deal with flooding. |

The Writers Guild of America announced late Sunday that it has reached a tentative deal with Hollywood studios, streaming services and production companies. It's been five months since the people who write the scripts walked off the job, largely stalling new shows and movies. Union members still need to officially approve the contract agreement. Meanwhile, there's no deal yet for the actors union, which is still on strike. |

Families in Maui will be allowed to return to their homes in Lahaina for the first time since raging wildfires destroyed the area. It has been a long six weeks and some residents say that while they initially were desperate to see how their homes fared, with the gift of time, they are now more hesitant. The visits will be supervised and residents will be offered protective gear and are encouraged not to dig through the rubble for fear of stirring up toxic fumes. |

4. PREPARING FOR DISASTERS | While the human toll of these weather-related disasters is front-of-mind, the survivors now need to pick up the pieces of their lives. Rebuilding homes is incredibly expensive and the cost of insurance is only going up in areas that are often hit by natural disasters. During Climate Week, we talked with Dave Jones, an expert in this field, to understand what homeowners need to think about to protect themselves before disaster strikes. |

New Jersey's Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez remains defiant after he and his wife were indicted Friday on corruption charges. He has refused to resign even as top members of his party call for him to step down. Now Rep. Andy Kim says he will run against Menendez in next year's primary. This is the second time Menendez has been indicted on corruption charges. We believe the saying is *third* strike and you're out. |

A Navy veteran is hoping a pig's heart is the answer to save his life. This is only the second time this experimental surgery has been performed, but without it, his fate may have been sealed. He suffered heart failure, but other health problems meant he was not eligible for a human heart transplant. |

8. WEINERMOBILE RIDES AGAIN |
Hot dog! A great national outrage is coming to an end: Oscar Mayer has agreed to begin calling its giant hot dog car the Wienermobile once again. It tried shifting the national vernacular to embrace the Frankmobile as it got started on the summer tour, but it looks like it didn't take. So if you see the unmistakable ride rolling down your street any time soon, feel free to call it by its given name. We would have changed the name to Wiener Wheels. |

On Friday we gave you a heads up about space rubble expected to descend to Earth. It was a success! Check out some of the photos. Today the sample from the asteroid Bennu will make the final leg of its journey as it is flown to Johnson Space Center in Houston where NASA scientists will finally get to study the sample that took seven years and four billion miles to arrive. |

We always cry at graduations, but this one doubly so. A pair of twins born at just 22 weeks worked hard: They drank their milk, healed their bodies and after four months were carried out of the NICU surrounded by very proud members of their medical team at the Cleveland Clinic. We're thrilled for their parents but will be thinking about them in just a few months when they have to start chasing around two happy, healthy kiddos. |
