Hundreds of Palestinians were allowed to leave Gaza — the first groups to depart since the war started Oct. 7 — but only if they had a second country's passport or severe injuries. As Israel struck Jabaliya refugee camp for the second time in two days, Palestinian health authorities said more than 3,600 Palestinian children were killed in the first 25 days of the war. Hamas' Oct. 7 attacks in southern Israel also killed children — a number not yet released by Israel — and took about 30 hostage. |

DUAL PURPOSE: There are many farms closer to Washington, D.C., than President Joe Biden's stop in Minnesota yesterday, where he announced more than $5 billion in investments in rural America. But Minnesota does happen to be the home state of Biden's new Democratic primary rival, Rep. Dean Phillips. NO VOTES: The House voted Wednesday not to expel Rep. George Santos, as his criminal trial and a House Ethics Committee investigation proceed. The House also rejected Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's effort to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American in Congress. |

3. INFANT MORTALITY RISES |
Infant mortality in the U.S. increased 3% in 2022, according to the CDC, making it the largest spike in two decades for a rate that has generally been falling. While the agency doesn't know yet what's behind the increase, doctors have speculated that spikes in RSV and flu rates could have contributed. |

4. FITNESS APP USED FOR MURDER? |
A woman accused of fatally shooting pro mountain biker Mo Wilson last year allegedly tracked her down through the locations of her bike rides logged on a fitness app. Prosecutors allege that Kaitlin Armstrong killed Wilson out of romantic jealousy: Wilson had dated Armstrong's boyfriend and still spent time with him. |

5. EXPLODING COOKING SPRAY |
An Illinois jury ordered the maker of Pam cooking spray to pay $7.1 million to a woman who was badly burned when a can of another of its brands "exploded into a fireball," as her lawsuit alleged. Her lawyer said there are more than 50 pending cases by people who were burned by cans used by Conagra Brands in the 2010s that suddenly vent their flammable contents at lower temperatures than other designs. |

| The Federal Reserve left its benchmark interest rate at 5.4% for the second meeting in a row, but Chair Jerome Powell said the Fed could raise it again if inflation accelerates. The last rate hike was in July, but central bankers believe past increases are still working their way through the economy. |

WORLD CHAMPS: The Texas Rangers won their first-ever World Series title, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks four games to one. The team had gone more than six decades without winning a title, which until last night was the second-longest ongoing drought after the Cleveland Guardians, who last won a World Series in 1948. (For perspective: Joe Biden was 5 years old then.) |

IN MEMORIAM: Brilliant — and fiery — college basketball coach Bob Knight has died at age 83. The controversial coach won three NCAA titles at Indiana and helmed the U.S. Olympic team to gold in 1984. |

This year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will open and close with some serious musical talent. Jon Batiste, the multi-instrumentalist who led Stephen Colbert's house band until last year, will kick off the festivities — which begin at 8:30 a.m. ET, a half-hour earlier than past years — and the penultimate act will be Cher, who just released her first-ever Christmas album. The final act? You guessed it. Her Christmas album is not called Have Yourself a Cher-y Little Christmas, which we consider a huge missed opportunity.

10. ROCK CENTER CHRISTMAS TREE |
An 80-foot Norway spruce in upstate New York was announced as this year's holiday icon. The colossal conifer will begin its downstate journey to Manhattan a week from now and, after a couple weeks unelectrified, will be illuminated with 50,000 bulbs on Nov. 29. After it's taken down in mid-January, the tree will become lumber for Habitat for Humanity. |

YOU CAN DO IT: LINEN CLOSET EDITION |
Life-wise, you may have things a bit more together than we do, and accordingly may not need to watch this segment on how to organize your linen closet. For us, it was a comforting reminder that things which have stressed us out for months can be dispatched with ease. Sometimes we just need a little hand-holding to get started, and also a clear demonstration of folding a fitted sheet. |

All right then, keep your secrets |
