NEW YORK MINUTE: The FBI raided the homes of three high-ranking officials with New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ administration, POLITICO reports.

First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and her romantic partner Schools Chancellor David Banks had their West Harlem townhouse searched by agents this morning. Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Phil Banks also saw his Hollis, Queens home raided.

SPINNING THE WEB: Searching online for more information about Republican Rep. Mike Lawler?

You may stumble onto a website created by the challenger seeking to unseat him.

Former Rep. Mondaire Jones today launched lawlerforny.com, which is devoted to the Democrat’s distillation of Lawler’s stances on issues ranging from abortion to Project 2025 to border security, Playbook has learned.

The domain name and faux campaign logo are snarky nods to the freshman GOP member’s name being floated for a statewide office. It could influence the narrative in both Lawler’s bid for reelection to the House as well as any run he may make for, say, governor.

The website is only the latest salvo in what is shaping up to be one of the country’s mudsling-iest House fights. The increasingly bitter matchup is playing out in a Hudson Valley district crucial to their parties’ path to the House majority.

Lawler and Jones have accused each other of misrepresentation and taken turns seizing on the smallest shreds of evidence to make the case that the other is an extremist.

“The Mondaire for Congress campaign is proud to launch lawlerforny.com today to show where Mike Lawler really stands on some of the most important issues to the communities of the Lower Hudson Valley,” Jones’ campaign manager Shannon Geison told Playbook. “From voting repeatedly against a woman’s right to an abortion to defunding the police, Mike Lawler’s voting record in Congress is out-of-touch with the 17th district, and you can’t trust a word he says on social media or on TV..”

Lawler has said he opposes a nationwide ban on abortion and accused Jones of wanting to defund the police.

Chris Russell, spokesperson for the Lawler campaign, responded, “Mondaire Jones is becoming increasingly desperate to change the course of his failing campaign, with this website being the latest in a long string of lies about Congressman Lawler’s strong, bipartisan, common-sense record. There’s a reason Mondaire and the DCCC haven’t released any polling in NY-17 — it’s because they know their lies aren’t making an impact on the race.”

Expect a back-and-forth until Election Day.

Just on Wednesday, Lawler and Jones locked horns on X over their support for Israel — an issue critical in a district with a sizable Jewish electorate.

“If Mondaire Jones got his way, Israel wouldn’t have the critical funding it needs for the Iron Dome and David’s Sling defense systems that have saved countless lives,” the House member alleged, referencing a New York Post story.

“In the days leading up to Oct. 7, Mike Lawler voted to cut funding to Israel by nearly $1 billion,” Jones responded.

Meanwhile, Jones’ first TV ad of the cycle hit Lawler on affordable health care.

“He would allow insurance companies to discriminate against New Yorkers with preexisting conditions like cancer and asthma,” the Democrat says in the 30-second spot.

An earlier footnote on the same charge appears to reference a 2013 tweet by Lawler that reads, “Obamacare’s an absolute disaster,” but makes no mention of preexisting conditions.

Lawler responded to the ad by seeking to rebut several of his opponent’s charges against him as lies, writing in part, “I am NOT working to overturn the Affordable Care Act.” Emily Ngo

Italian Democratic Leadership Council Sunday Dinner

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former Mayor Bill de Blasio and former President Donald Trump Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci are fundraising for Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday evening. | Italian Democratic Leadership Council

HEY, PAISANOS!: Vice President Kamala Harris’ bid for the White House is making some unlikely partnerships, but, hey, that’s amore.

Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, former Speaker of the House ‘Godmother’ Nancy Pelosi and Anthony Scaramucci, known for his very brief stint as comms director to former President Donald Trump, will appear side by side at a “Paisans for Kamala” event.

The virtual “Italian Sunday Dinner” is being put on by the Italian American Democratic Leadership Council and will also feature Long Island Rep. Tom Suozzi and Lorraine Bracco, famous for her role as a therapist in The Sopranos.

Pelosi and de Blasio — who noted that “Our big Italian family dinner gets livelier all the time!” — promoted the event on social media. The former mayor also inexplicably posted the context-less “I eat pizza.”

“Politics makes strange bedfellows,” Scaramucci wrote in a text to Playbook. “Right now my mom has to take a backseat until after the election and Trump is defeated. Nancy Pelosi is my favorite Italian American once we defeat Trump Nancy can go back to the number two position and my mom Marie Scaramucci can return to first place.” Jason Beeferman

WORKERS COMP WOES: A group that has pushed for tort law changes is urging New York’s chief administrative judge to address alleged fraud efforts aimed at faking slip-and-fall claims.

The Lawsuit Reform Alliance, a trade group, is seizing on an insurer’s lawsuit that claims construction workers have faked injuries on the job, part of a broader and widespread effort to defraud the insurance industry.

And the insurance industry through their lobbying organization wants the Office of Court Administration to take the concerns raised over fake injury claims in the lawsuit seriously.

“Crucially, the OCA should be a leading advocate for addressing the complete lack of legislation regulating the litigation finance industry,” the Lawsuit Reform Alliance wrote in a letter to Judge Joseph Zayas. “It is widely agreed that reforms are long overdue.” — Nick Reisman

From The Campaign Trail

ROCKLAND COUNTY WHOOPSIE: This Democratic Assembly candidate needs your help in flipping this Rockland County Assembly seat blue!

Except the seat he’s running for is not in Rockland County.

Twenty-one-year-old Boston University senior and Assembly hopeful Zack Couzens sent out a mass text with the help of political communications firm North Shore Strategies to Rockland County residents, asking them to donate to his campaign and help him turn the district blue.

“It's crucial that we focus on electing local Democrats right here in Rockland County,” the mass-text reads. “Can you chip in any amount to help us flip Rockland County blue?,” it also says.

Couzens, who is running against rising Republican star Assemblymember Matt Slater, isn’t running in Rockland, though — he’s vying for a seat in Westchester and Putnam counties. That district — the 94th Assembly district, which is currently held by Slater — is solidly red.

“During our recent fundraising efforts, we used a mail merge field to personalize texts with each donor's county,” Couzens said in a statement. “Unfortunately, a small number of out-of-district addresses were inadvertently included. Despite this, the response from our in-district supporters was overwhelming. We’ve raised thousands of dollars from Putnam and Westchester residents who are energized by our campaign and ready for a change.”

When asked for a comment, North Shore Strategies referred Playbook to Couzens' statement.

“Zack Couzens doesn't even know where his district is,” Putnam County GOP chair Andres Gil said in a statement. “The last thing New York State needs is another dangerous out of touch liberal candidate who cares more about the publicity than even knowing who he represents.” Jason Beeferman

CASTING CALL, 'BLUE COLLAR AESTHETIC' PREFERRED: Are you a White male, middle-aged and someone who can rock a “blue-collar aesthetic”?

You may be perfect for an acting role in this Laura Gillen advertisement.

The Democratic PAC Common Sense NY is seeking talent from Brooklyn and Manhattan to play the role of “Blue Collar Worker from Long Island” and “Man from Long Island” in an advertisement for Laura Gillen, who’s facing Republican Rep. Anthony D’Esposito in a tight House race in Nassau County.

The advertisement was placed by a political consulting firm working with Common Sense NY, according to the PAC.

“It was not authorized by us, and it is not going to be part of our program,” said an adviser to Common Sense NY, who was granted anonymity because they did not have permission to speak on behalf of the PAC. Laura Gillen’s campaign said they are not connected or involved with the ad or its production.

The acting gig pays up to $600 flat, according to the website Backstage.com, which published the posting. — Jason Beeferman
