Trump administration rushes to Supreme Court as it fights judge's order forcing foreign-aid payments

The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court Wednesday night to lift a judge's order requiring the federal government to pay nearly $2 billion in unpaid invoices from foreign-aid contractors in a matter of hours.

In an emergency application filed with the high court, acting Solicitor General Sarah Harris argued that it is impossible for officials to comply with an urgent deadline issued by U.S. District Judge Amir Ali in lawsuits brought by aid groups that contend they're being devastated by the funding cutoff.
