Tesla Cheese | "Tesla Cheese," as we all know, refers to the cheesy odor that some Tesla Model 3 owners have reported, often associated with the air conditioning system and its filter. | Impressive! On the other hand, another guy made a Cybertruck out of mashed potatoes. It's probably the most reliable Cybertruck on the road, based on today's cheddlines! | Today's Cheddlines You Need2Know

But still: nope) | | Companies mentioned in today's newsletter | $TSLA ( ▲ 0.17% ) | | Tesla recalls a majority of its Cybertrucks | | Tesla $TSLA ( ▲ 0.17% ) has issued a recall for nearly all of its Cybertruck models in the United States, affecting over 46,000 vehicles produced between November 2023 and February 2025, representing a significant portion of the Cybertrucks currently on the road. The recall arises due to concerns that an exterior stainless-steel trim panel may detach from the vehicle while in motion. Such an event not only poses a road hazard but significantly increases the risk of crashes. | The issue was brought to light after 151 warranty claims were potentially linked to the defect, although, fortunately, no injuries or collisions have been reported to date. | The detached panel could result in audible noise within the vehicle or might be visibly coming loose or breaking off, which can be particularly alarming for drivers and other road users. To address this, Tesla plans to replace the rail panel assembly with a newly designed one. | This recall is one of several that Tesla has had to initiate, with eight recalls affecting the Cybertruck since January 2024 alone. Historically, Tesla has managed many vehicle recalls through software updates, but hardware-related recalls such as this require a more traditional approach. | The timing of this recall could have broader implications for Tesla's reputation. The company's stock has already seen a significant decline this year, shedding about half of its value amid a backdrop of increasing competition and controversy surrounding CEO Elon Musk's political activities. Analysts suggest that while Tesla has previously managed to avoid major quality issues, recurring recalls could tarnish its reputation rapidly. On the other hand, so could the CEO performing certain arm gestures on inauguration day. | | | Edible Arrangements branches out into edibles | | Edible Brands, the company behind the universally loved Edible Arrangements, is foraying into the burgeoning world of hemp products with new website Edibles.com. This move marks a significant pivot from artfully crafted fruit bouquets to the dynamic and rapidly evolving cannabis industry. | The launch is a response to the growing appetite for hemp-derived products following the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized hemp containing 0.3% or less THC across most states. The legislative change has opened a floodgate of opportunities for companies like Edible Brands to explore and capitalize on the demand for THC products. | The venture is somewhat of a bold leap into the unknown for Edible Brands, historically known for its fruity creations. The company's nearly 800 locations as of the end of 2023 could witness a transformative shift in operations and perception, tapping into the legal cannabis market projected to surpass $32 billion in retail sales in 2024. | I guess there are only so many edible arrangements you can sell, eh? | | | From @cheddar | | cheddar761K followers

| | | Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner stepping down | | Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner has stepped down abruptly amid discussions of privatization involving the Trump administration. Gardner, who had been with Amtrak for 16 years and served as CEO since January 2022, resigned to ensure that Amtrak "continues to enjoy the full faith and confidence of this administration." | The backdrop to Gardner's resignation includes recent comments from billionaire Elon Musk at a Morgan Stanley tech conference. Musk floated the idea of privatizing not only Amtrak but also the U.S. Postal Service. Musk criticized Amtrak's service by comparing it unfavorably to the bullet trains of other nations, like China, signaling a potential shift in how national transportation might be envisioned in the future. Musk's comments come amid the Trump administration's broader push to downsize the federal government's footprint. | Despite the turmoil at the top, Amtrak itself has shown signs of resilience and growth. After struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic with plummeting ridership, the railroad has bounced back impressively. In the 2024 fiscal year, Amtrak reported a record 32.8 million customer trips, marking a 15% increase from 2023 and surpassing its previous record in 2019. Additionally, ticket revenue saw a 9% jump from the previous year, totaling $2.5 billion. | As Amtrak moves forward without Gardner, the focus will inevitably shift towards how it can continue to improve and evolve in a manner that satisfies both political expectations as well as the needs of the American public. Let's hope the talk of privatization doesn't compromise passenger safety. | | | Robert De Niro confirms 'Meet the Parents 4' | | Robert De Niro has officially confirmed he will be involved in the upcoming fourth installment of the "Meet The Parents" franchise. The announcement was made during a recent episode of "The View." | The actor, known for his versatility in both dramatic and comedic roles, kept details close to his chest during the interview but affirmed his participation with a simple "Yes" when probed by host Sara Haines. | "Meet the Parents" and its sequels have not only enjoyed box office success but have also embedded themselves into the cultural fabric with their comedic exploration of the dynamic tensions within extended families. | John Hamburg, who penned the screenplays for the previous three films, returns as a writer, and boy, is he gonna earn the money this time. Here's a hint, John: | "Hey Chat GPT, take the plot of these first three movies and wring out any remaining originality into a fourth. Make it passably watchable for the American public and ensure that Robert De Niro's part is even better than the one in 'The Godfather, Part Two' and 'Taxi Driver' combined." | Then cash the check. | | | The shoe company embracing culture | | "About five years ago we started talking a little more publicly about cultural appropriation in the Native American community with our business," said Jori Miller Sherer, CEO of Minnetonka shoes. "It was a very challenging, challenging thing to kind of come to terms with and to even get to the point where we could talk about it publicly." | For example, here's a Minnetonka child's moccasin from 2011: | | "We recognize that our original products, some of which are still sold today, have been appropriated from Native American culture," wrote then CEO Dave Miller in a 2020 apology. "We deeply and meaningfully apologize for having benefited from selling Native-inspired designs without directly honoring Native culture or communities." |
| In 2020, Minnetonka took a significant step by apologizing and developing a plan for reconciliation. "For the first time in 2020, we apologized for it, we called it what it was, we came up with a plan, and we have been working on that plan ever since," she said.
The relationship with the Native American community today is guided by their advisors. | "One thing I've learned is there is no one person or one tribe who speaks for everyone, just like in many other different cultures, right? There isn't just one way," she said. "We're, I think that, at least in the local community, people can tell that we're authentically, genuinely trying to show up better."
Minnetonka's connection to Minnesota is deeply rooted. The company's name comes from a local lake, which means "great water" in the Dakota language. Sherer described Minnesota as "a land of 10,000 lakes," a place with "four seasons, really active people, really engaged people. Fun food, fun, you know, fun everything."
Looking ahead, Sherer hinted at exciting plans for Minnetonka's 80th anniversary next year and a "really exciting, big collab at the end of this year." Finally, she shared a personal note about the company: "I don't know if people know it's a family business. I'm fourth generation, work with my dad, work with my cousin. It's a very family-friendly, fun place to be."
Minnetonka's story is one of resilience, authenticity, and a deep commitment to both its heritage and its future. Also it seems to be a story of saying sorry when they got called out for profiting off Native American traditions, rather than simply doubling down and doing worse, regardless. I think that's called growth, right? | | | | Want more Cheddar?
