1. Got $5 Billion? Let's Buy the Boston Celtics! |
Sure, LeBron James may have said he hates playing in Boston. Beantown might have Mark Wahlberg as its most famous fan. Or possibly Matt Damon. Or Ben Affleck. (Is there a difference?) But still, the Celtics just won their 18th championship. And the team is rather good! Time to sell the team!
Larry Bird's old green-clover-toting ballers were last sold for $360 million in 2002. Now, Forbes values them at $4.7 billion, a solid increase of 1,200%. (It's only about $2 billion less than their archrivals, the Los Angeles Lakers. Can you tell that here at Cheddar we are definitely delighted that the Celtics trounced the Mavericks in the Finals, and not at all bitter about it? Good.) The owners say the decision was in part due to "estate and family planning considerations of the group's controlling members." Which sounds like cold, hard cash to us.
It's expected the group will make a deal by later this year or early 2025. Who wants to chip in and buy it together? We've got...six dollars. Going once! Watch Now |

| DJI, a drone company based in China, has developed a drone that can be controlled using just head movements.
The Avata 2 combines a headset and a handset, offering highly intuitive control. By simply moving your head, you can navigate the skies and capture aerial footage like never before.
However, the future of DJI drones in the United States remains uncertain as concerns have been raised that these devices may be used by China to collect sensitive information.
As a result, the U.S. government is considering a potential ban on DJI drones, which would impact both the consumer market and the commercial drone industry. |

2. Debit Card Swipe Fees Could Go Up! Thank the Supreme Court. |
You might soon be seeing debit card fees go up at the checkout, thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court. They revived a challenge by a truck stop in North Dakota to a 2011 Fed cap on the fees. That means the truck stop can go ahead with its challenge, and if it's successful, you could be paying more to swipe your debit card not just in North Dakota but all over these United States of America. Especially if you happen to own a truck stop. Come to think of it, perhaps that's our new ambition? Read More |

3. Quite a Few Interest Rate Cuts Could Be on the Way |
Seven Seas. Seven sins. Seven colors in the rainbow. And now? Citibank Equity Strategist Drew Petit expects the Fed to cut interest rates a whopping seven times, once a month, starting in September. That could have a huge impact on the markets, and could in particular boost small-cap growth, he says.
This is all, of course, providing the economy as a whole stays strong and consumer confidence holds up. Drew describes that as a Goldilocks scenario although we're thinking it's more like something from the Seven Dwarves? But just for the callback humor. It's Goldilocks. We'll take it. Let's hope it's not like that movie Seven, though. That was so creepy and horrible, and not just because Kevin Spacey was in it. Watch Now |

4. Tesla Posts Delivery Numbers, Beats Estimates |
Tesla posted its second quarter vehicle and delivery report for the year, showing that it produced more than 410,000 vehicles, delivered over 443,000 cars, and beat Wall Street's estimates. But! The number is still down around 4.8% from this time a year ago, and year to date the stock is off 4%. The numbers also beat expectations due to price cuts and incentives to try to artificially stimulate demand. It's a complex and evolving picture, a bit like Elon Musk's hairline over the years. 5. Would You Try French-Fry-Flavored Fro-Yo? |
Fro-yo company 16 Handles CEO Neil Horseman says the brand's new French Fry flavor is surprisingly good, given that it has chunks of Idaho potatoes in it. It's all part of building the brand's "cult-like" social media following, since he bought the company two years ago.
Of course, the clever thing is that even if you're in the store to try french-fry-flavored Fro-Yo and you don't buy it? "You're going to buy something else." The man is clearly a marketing genius!
Every 16th of the month the brand introduces a new flavor, and next month, it'll be their "spiciest flavor yet," based on a "small, red candy". So basically, Neil just gave away that next month's new flavor is going to be Red Hots. Or are we reading his ever-so-subtle signals wrong?
The firm is also beginning to franchise in five more states with its "highly automated, low-labor-cost business model," which can only be good for people who like crazy fro-yo flavors. We admit we're kinda curious to try this stuff now. But only so we can post about it on our incredible Instagram account. Are you following? Watch Now |
