Supreme Court justices said Monday they would decide soon whether to take a case in which they would judge if former President Donald Trump can be prosecuted on charges of plotting to overturn his 2020 election loss. A federal judge ruled that the case could go forward, but special counsel Jack Smith asked the justices to weigh in before Trump's lawyers could seek to reverse the ruling in an appeals court. The justices ordered Trump's attorneys to respond by Dec. 20. |

2. 'HER HEALTH IS ON THE LINE' |
A woman who sued for an exception to Texas' near-total abortion ban has left the state to get the procedure before her nonviable pregnancy becomes a further risk to her health, said her lawyers. Kate Cox, who is 21 weeks pregnant, received permission for an abortion Thursday from a district judge, but the Texas Supreme Court put it on hold the next day and then rejected the challenge outright Monday. |

3. DETROIT SYNAGOGUE SLAYING |
Investigators arrested a person of interest in the stabbing death of Samantha Woll, a Detroit synagogue president. The person is the second to be arrested in relation to the Oct. 21 killing. While Woll, 40, was attacked two weeks after the onset of war between Israel and Hamas, police said they've found no evidence the attack was motivated by antisemitism. |

4. GOP CANDIDATE THREATENED |
A New Hampshire man sent text messages threatening to kill Vivek Ramaswamy and carry out a mass shooting at a campaign event, the campaign of the Republican presidential candidate said. Tyler Anderson, 30, who made his initial court appearance Monday, earlier told the FBI he had sent similar texts to other campaigns. |

Frankly, wading through that list of programs leaves us all tuckered out. (Sorry, it was there.) |

Nearly 2 million more people than last year will be driving at least 50 miles from home over the holidays, AAA forecast. Compared with 2022's holiday travel season, about 340,000 more people are expected to fly while 390,000 more will take buses, trains or cruises. In all, about 115 million people will be traveling, nine out of 10 by car. Nearly 104 million long-distance drivers. That's a lot of true crime podcasts being listened to. |

8. 'BARBENHEIMER' GOLDEN GLOBES |

9. 'ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU' |
On its way to $100 million in earnings this year and its 30th anniversary next Christmas, "the most successful Christmas song of all time" has spun off a miniseries' worth of drama, including a falling out, a lawsuit and a nation of retail associates who can't hear its opening sleigh bells without dissociating. Play it again, Mariah! And again and again and again. |
