Wisconsin's highly competitive Senate match-up is now set: Eric Hovde, a wealthy real estate executive, will look to oust Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin. Hovde easily won the GOP primary on Tuesday, according to The Associated Press. National Republicans had recruited him and hoped he would invest some of his own money into the race — and he has, loaning his campaign $13 million as of late July. But Baldwin, who has been in the Senate since 2013, will be tough to beat and is taking her reelection seriously. She's reported spending nearly $31 million so far this cycle on her campaign. National Democrats have sought to paint Hovde as a carpetbagger from California as they try to maintain control of the Senate. Republicans need to flip just two seats to guarantee control of the chamber, and they already have a near-certain pickup in West Virginia. Read the latest
